Psychodynamic therapy is a form of individual psychotherapy rooted in psychoanalytic theory. It focuses on understanding inner conflicts, unconscious patterns, and emotional experiences that influence your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. By exploring these underlying issues, psychodynamic therapy helps clients achieve personal growth, emotional insight, and improved coping strategies.
Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (STDP)
Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy is goal-oriented and time-limited, typically lasting 3–6 months with sessions held once or twice a week.
This therapy focuses on a specific inner conflict that is currently affecting your life. Through reframing and understanding the conflict, clients gain insight into recurring patterns, which can help facilitate lasting personality development and emotional resilience.
Key features:
- Structured around a clearly defined problem or conflict
- Fixed number of sessions with a set start and end date
- Focus on achieving measurable emotional and behavioral change
STDP is particularly effective for clients who prefer short-term, intensive therapy and want tangible progress within a defined timeframe.
Dynamic Therapy
Dynamic therapy is a more flexible and open-ended approach, suitable for issues that are less defined or when the core of the problem is harder to identify.
Key characteristics:
- One or two sessions per week, with no fixed end date
- Explores unconscious processes, unresolved conflicts, and emotional patterns
- Tailored to each client’s unique needs and life situation
Dynamic therapy helps individuals uncover deeper emotional patterns, improve self-awareness, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Who Can Benefit from Psychodynamic Therapy?
Psychodynamic approaches are particularly helpful for people experiencing:
- Recurrent relationship difficulties
- Emotional struggles rooted in past experiences
- Low self-esteem or self-criticism
- Anxiety or depressive symptoms with unclear causes
- Difficulty understanding recurring life patterns
By working with a skilled English-speaking psychotherapist, clients can gradually resolve inner conflicts, enhance self-understanding, and build emotional resilience.
